FAQ
- Do I Have to Remove all the Paint Before Applying the Restor-it Sealer?
Our sealer will not penetrate through paint. Remove as much as possible. Any remaining paint may blister after you apply the sealer due to the solvents escaping.
- Do I have to Remove all the Dry Rot Before Applying the Sealer?
Simply remove any loose Dry Rot that you can with your fingers or a wire brush.
- Can the Wood be Wet and Still Apply Restor-It Sealer?
The wood should be as dry as possible. The best and fastest way to dry out wood is with air flow over the surface.
- How Much Coverage do you get from the Sealer?
Because our sealer is a Penetrating epoxy we cannot answer this question. however if you contact us at sales@restor-it.com and tell us what our project is we may be able to give you a educated guess as how much you may need to finish the job.
- Can I Paint Over the Sealer?
Our Sealer acts as a great primer for most paints and varnishes. The only paint that you must wait for a full cure of our sealer are water base enamel paints. These are water based paints that have a shine to them when they dry.
We recommend that you follow the directions on how to apply our sealer to your surface, than wait 24 hours before applying your paint or varnish over the sealer. This gives the sealer enough time to semi set-up, to allow your brush or roller to go over the sealer easier. Do not wait any longer than 72 hours to apply your paint or varnish. As our sealer cures it will pull your paint or varnish in with it so it is embedded into the surface and not just sitting on top, giving you a longer lasting finish.
- What do I use to Clean Up With?
We make it very easy to use clean up solvent. If however the store is out you can use lacquer thinner. We recommend that you use cheaper throw away tools such as chip brushes, plastic or inexpensive putty knifes, etc.
- How Long is the Shelve Life of the Sealer?
As long as the caps are on tight and it has been stored in a dry cool area, the sealer and filer should last for years. Sometimes part A of the filler will form a crust or hard surface. Just simply remove this and go ahead and use.
