How to use the Restor-It Flexible Epoxy Filler
How to properly mix the Restor-It Flexible Epoxy Filler.
In order to mix the Restor-It Epoxy Filler you will need a flat surface, as well as putty knives, and gloves. Respirators and eye protection are not necessary for the Epoxy Filler.
If you decide to use the entire container of the Restor-It Epoxy Filler, then you do not need to measure, but if you are using a Pint or Gallon Kit, and do not plan on using the entire filler, you will need to measure it out. When you are measuring out the filler it is okay to simply guesstimate the amounts, as long as you are within 10% of each. Also, if you plan on using only a portion at a time you will need two different putty knives, one for Part A and a separate one for Part B so you do not contaminate the filler.
Once you have equal amounts of both Part A and Part B onto the flat surface, the easiest way to mix the two together is by using the smear, scrape, fold method. This requires you to smear out the product, scrape it up from the bottle, and then fold it back onto itself. This may take anywhere from three to five minutes. You may wish to use two putty knives to be able to scrape the product off the knives. The product should be mixed until it has a uniform color. You will be able to tell when it is a uniform color as the Part B has a blue tint, while Part A is white.
How to properly apply the Restor-It Flexible Epoxy Filler.
The easiest way to apply the filler is to simply use one of the putty knives that were used to mix the Restor-It Epoxy Filler, take a little of the epoxy filler at a time, and scrape it onto the wood. You want to make sure that you completely cover the area of missing wood. After the gap or hole has been completely filled, let the Restor-It Epoxy Filler sit and completely cure. Once it has been cured, you can sand away imperfections, re-apply more of the filler as a second layer, and even nail into it.
