Wood Hardener

Wood Hardener

As wood ages, it loses its moisture content in both saps and oils. When this happens, it allows wood to become more absorbent. Many wood hardeners treat only the surface of the wood, tightening the wood fibers only on the exterior. Where Restor-It Deep Penetrating Epoxy Sealer differs is that the Epoxy Sealer penetrates deep into the wood, tightening not only the surface fibers, but also the fibers on the inside of the wood. This wood hardening process then strengthens the entire piece, not simply the exterior. It is also important to pay special attention to the end grains of wood, as this is where wood can most easily absorb moisture.

It is important when applying Restor-It Deep Penetrating Epoxy Sealer that you apply the Sealer until the wood cannot absorb any more. This will help ensure that the wood hardening process is fully completed. The Epoxy Sealer will then replace the missing saps and oils with a tough epoxy resin giving strength and longevity back to your wood. This process of wood hardening is important for keeping your wood in working conditions.

Most exterior wood is covered by some sort of coating, such as a paint or varnish. When this fails the wood becomes exposed to the elements and deteriorates rapidly. Restor-It Deep Penetrating Epoxy Sealer gives longevity to the wood as well as the paint or varnish itself, as it acts as a great primer for most paints and varnishes; actually increasing the life of your paint or varnish.

It is important to note that if you are using water base enamels (that is water based paint with any type of sheen) then the Restor-It Deep Penetrating Epoxy Sealer must have a full cure before the enamel can be applied; otherwise blistering will occur.
